This book started off a little wordy but soon had me hooked! I was reading & reading getting more sucked in to the story, transported into that time & place that I didn't realize I had reached the end of the book, kept trying to go to the next page but couldn't. I really liked Shannon's writing style. It was engaging and the characters were likable. I would have liked to have seen more of Vivien's brother Dom, but maybe he wasn't as close to the rest of the family as others.
I rooted for Vivien's team throughout The Conflicts. I won't spoil anything, but there was a couple surprises I wasn't expecting by the end of the book! I look forward to reading more from this author.
This was an enjoyable and a fascinating world. This is UF all the way. The premis of this world was very intriguing to me and sounded different from books I have read so I was very happy to get a copy of this book.
We have Vivien who is a vampire and the leader of Las Vegas. Her daughter Lily gets kidnapped by an old vampire named Tomas who thinks is in love with Vivien and he sends her a note and some finger tips telling her that he is fixing Lily for her and forces her to attend the Conlficts (supernatural fight to the death sports arena) she decides to one up him and enters the Conflicts to fight with her people.
The romance is minimal since it is a UF but there is some sexual tension between Jake her head of security in Vegas (werelion) and Sean the pack leader from Michigan(werewolf). Now, as to what team I'm on, it's too early to tell. I was very torn between the two and kept switching sides with each interaction. Feels like a bit of a love triangle is brewing but we will have to wait and see.
The Conflicts also brings in to town the big, bad, and extremely old vampires to town that would like to see Vivien dead for something she did to a friend of theirs back in the day. Vivien essentially flips them the bird during the games and shows them she is not someone to mess with and not too much happens with that story line yet.
There is a twist at the end with Lily's kidnapping but I will have that for you to find out for yourself at the end. Can't say too much or it will spoil it.
I gave this 3 1/2 stars because it's a first book in a UF and we all know UF is all about world building which I love but hate at the same time. For me personally sometimes the world building starts to feel daunting and overwhelming and it takes away from the story for me.
This is a great start to a series though and I'm eager to see where the author is going to with it. It's definitely worth checking it out.

Started reading and couldn't put it down. Very unique plot and the references made to current vampire books was hilarious. Can't wait for more!!
A superb new adaptation to the supernatural world! Ultra-descriptive scenes and landscapes throughout the entire book!! The quirky humor keeps you smiling while the action keeps you rivited. An excellent balance of supernatural wit and grit!!!
The author gets you hooked in the wit and charm of her characters. The story quickly comes to life in the most captivating of ways; it's unlike any supernatural book I've read. It is difficult to put down. It had me laughing and crying and now I want more. Definitely a must read!!
A wonderful new author in the vampire genre! She grabs you from page one with witty banter, and holds your interest with well developed characters and plot twists and turns that make it hard to put down! I'm looking forward to reading the stories of each of the characters we were introduced to in Conflict!
